Daniel Webster (b. January 18, 1782-d. October 24, 1852) was a famous American senator who is widely believed to have delayed the Civil War. Webster is responsible for proposing the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850, which helped maintain the balance between free states and slave states. Webster was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire.
