James Barton Longacre (August 11, 1794 — January 1, 1869) was an American portraitist, and engraver who was born in Pennsylvania. James B. Longacre was the fourth Cheif Engraver of the United States Mint. He designed the Double Eagle, Flying Eagle cent, Gold Dollar, Shield Nickel, Two-cent piece, and other coins. He redesigned the coins of Chile in 1867. He wrote a number of books concerning the U.S. Mint. He died suddenly in his home in Philadelphia on January 1, 1869.
