James Madison (b. March 16, 1751-d. June 28, 1836) was the 4th President of the United States. He is generally known as the "Father of the Constitution" after drafting it in 1787, and became a very popular President. He authored the United States Bill of Rights, and was a publisher of the Federalist Papers, which encouraged states to approve the Federal Constitution. He was a Planter by trade, and inherited the Montpelier Plantation. He supported the three-fiths compromise which allowed three-fiths of a states slave population to be counted when determining how many represinatives said states would send to congress.
